Congratulations to Trixie!
She has been chosen as our January
“Pet of the Month”

We would like to highlight a “fine” feline friend who has overcome her share of obstacles. In 2009 Trixie came to see us for the first time for a regular checkup. Upon examining Trixie, Dr. Kaleta noted that Trixie had significant dental tartar, gingivitis and a feline resorptive lesion. Due to the severity of Trixie’s teeth, a dental with 3 extractions was performed. Trixie recovered well after her dental. Then in the summer of 2010, Trixie came in to have a swelling on her right hind foot checked. Upon examining the foot, Dr. Pampreen was concerned that the swelling may be a tumor. A fine needle aspirate was performed by drawing out cells from the tumor to identify what kind it was. By looking at the slide Dr. Pampreen was able to tell that the tumor was malignant (cancerous). Unfortunately, because of the type of cancer, Dr. Pampreen recommended that Trixie’s leg be amputated to ensure that no cancerous cells were left behind. X-rays and blood work were done before surgery to be sure Trixie’s internal organs were functioning well and that there was no sign of cancer elsewhere. Once blood work and radiographs came back normal, Trixie underwent anesthesia and tumor removal performed by Dr. Keish. We are pleased to say that today because of Trixie’s bravery and her owner’s meticulous care after surgery that Trixie has adjusted well and even still loves to run around with her feline brother Sirius Black. The staff and doctors of GVH would like to say thank you to Trixie and her owners for their perseverance and for being our client!
